The Youngstown Yacht Club is excited to host the 2021 LYRA Regatta. YYC will be hosting 10 days of sailing as LYRA will immediately follow YYC’s Can Am Challenge on July 24 & 25th. Follow this page for updates!
Youngstown Yacht Club is located at the mouth of the Niagara River. Niagara on the Lake is directly across the river from Youngstown. YYC and NOLSC are frequent competitors on the race course, enjoying Tuesday and Wednesday night racing as well as friendly weekend competitions. YYC hosted it’s first LYRA in 1936 and is happy to once again be host to this annual tradition.
LYRA is an association of yacht clubs on Lake Ontario, eastern Lake Erie, the upper Saint Lawrence River, and the Finger Lakes. LYRA’s most visible activity is the annual regatta, which is hosted by one of the member clubs. LYRA promotes the sport of sailing at both the junior and senior levels, and contributes to goodwill among sailors on both sides of the Canada-United States border.
The Youngstown Yacht Club was founded in 1931 and just 5 short years later hosted their first LYRA Annual Regatta. YYC credits hosting LYRA as one of the reasons for the Club’s success.
